Marco Fanton

Director of Photography | Cinema & ADV

I’m a cinematographer and director of photography based in Italy, working internationally across Europe, the UK, and the US.

My journey into cinematography didn’t start with a camera, but with light.

I discovered lighting at 16 and quickly became obsessed with programming boards, fixtures, and designing shows. What began as small events and local gatherings soon evolved into rock concerts and theatre productions, where I developed a strong technical foundation and an instinct for shaping atmosphere through light.

In 2012, I was hired by a major cruise company to design and program shows on board ships traveling across the world. It was an intense, fast-paced environment that demanded precision, adaptability, and consistency at scale.

It was also where everything changed.

During my time at sea, I became increasingly curious about cameras and filmmaking. I spent countless hours with the onboard camera crew, asking questions, learning how cameras see light, and understanding the relationship between lighting and image capture. What started as curiosity quickly became a new direction.

I began to see lighting and cinematography as two parts of the same system. A transmitter and a receiver. That realisation shaped the way I approach my work to this day.

After a few years traveling the world, I moved to the UK. That transition marked the beginning of my career in cinematography.

I started working on corporate and promotional videos, applying my background in lighting to develop a strong visual style rooted in control, intention, and simplicity. Over time, I progressed into larger productions, building experience across commercial, branded, and narrative work.

In 2018, I co-founded G6MOCO, a Manchester-based visual engineering company focused on high-end motion control and visual production. I co-ran the company during its growth phase before eventually exiting the business after selling my shares.

Over the years, I’ve worked as a cinematographer and director of photography on a wide range of projects, including commercials, documentaries, feature films, short films, music videos, and branded content.

My work is defined by a strong understanding of light, a cinematic approach to storytelling, and the ability to adapt to different production scales, from agile shoots to large commercial sets.

I enjoy collaborating closely with directors, agencies, and production teams to develop a visual language that supports both story and brand identity. Whether the goal is something raw and natural or highly controlled and stylized, I approach each project with the same focus on clarity, intention, and execution.

I’m now based in the Veneto region of Italy, working with international clients and production companies while maintaining strong connections with UK and US productions. I regularly travel for shoots and am comfortable working across different countries, crews, and production environments.

I hold dual Italian and British citizenship and am fluent in both languages.

If you’re looking for a cinematographer who combines technical expertise with a strong visual sensibility, and who can adapt to different creative and production demands, I’d be happy to collaborate.
